Internationalize your apps with XSLT

Keywords:

XML; XSLT; Internalization

Abstract:

To meet the needs of users worldwide, today's Web applications often require internationalization. In this article, you'll see an approach for client-side internationalization based on XSLT. This solution only requires that both the data to be internationalized and the server stores are in XML.

Toward a 21st Century Library Catalog

Source:

Information Technology and Libraries, Volume 25, Issue 3, p.128-139 (2006)

Keywords:

OPAC; Endeca

Abstract:

Library catalogs have represented stagnant technology for close to twenty years. Moving toward a next-generation catalog, North Carolina State University (NCSU)Libraries purchased Endeca’s Information Access Platform to give its users relevance-ranked keyword search results and to leverage the rich metadata trapped in the MARC record to enhance collection browsing. This paper discusses the new functionality that has been enabled, the implementation process and system architecture, assessment of the new catalog’s performance, and future directions.

Rasing Arizona

Source:

ALA TechSource (2007)

URL:

http://www.techsource.ala.org/blog/2007/07/raising-arizona.html

Abstract:

Karen Schneider brings to our attention how two public library systems in Arizona are bridging the gap between the classification language of library collections and their users' "bookstore" approach to browsing collections. These two public library systems are experimenting with the use of BISAC Subject Headings instead of good 'ol Dewey or LC classification systems. Now, this is something to watch especially that I'm working for a book vendor.
